Band

The Falcons have worked hard to rebuild their name as a marching band in the fine tradition. Having achieved 3rd place in the South African Brass Band category in 2008, they look forward to refashioning their sound and performance as they continually recruit members to their melting pot of fresh talent. Prize giving and assemblies are included in their resume of performance venues, but the Falcons look forward to making their mark as a unifying band which generates school spirit at the Glenwood compulsories.

The band rehearses during lunch breaks and assemblies but increasingly enjoys performances in the form of parades through the school during lunch breaks. The recruitment of several members of the band to the KwaZulu-Natal Youth Orchestra has bolstered the confidence of the boys, who realize that greater recognition rewards those who apply themselves in the study of their art.

The Glenwood High School Band and the DGHS Drummies marched through the streets of Glenwood on Saturday.

It was a wonderful feeling to follow the festive atmosphere of the marchers and I must admit that I mentioned to a few people walking with me behind the Glenwood Band that we should do this sort of thing more often.
