Arts and Culture

The arts and culture lessons are offered by two experienced teachers. The boys from Grade 8 and Grade 9 are enjoying learning techniques and other integrations regarding the arts. These youngsters are exposed to learning about the cultures, modern technology, and the uses of resource materials, globalisation and other local and afro centric issues during their arts and culture lessons. They are also taught how to organise and keep visual arts diaries.

Daniel Brown of Form V was recently selected to represent the KZN Youth Choir. This is a first for Daniel despite being selected for the National Youth Choir in 2009. Well done Daniel.

It was wonderful to see another SPUD casting in the Daily News earlier this week. Tyronne Bright of Form IIB heard this week that he had won an opportunity to be part of the cast of SPUD alongside the other 2 Glenwood boys already cast.

Well done.

Glenwood boys, Jamie Royal (who will play Gecko) and Byron Langley (Simon) have been cast in the upcoming film version of the best-selling books, 'Spud'.

Rehearsals will start in March and will continue for 3 months.

Well done to the boys and I look forward to enjoying the film (with John Cleese in the lead role) as much as the books!

The GCF Schools' Art Exhibition opened at the KZNSA this afternoon and I was very pleased to see the number of Glenwood pieces being displayed. The Staff and boys who were at the opening were impressed with the level of art on display as well as the coffee!

I would never have believed it possible, way back in 1999 when Mr Forde of DHS and I were fighting for the same Chess players to bolster our respective Teams in order to challenge for the D&D Chess Trophy, that Glenwood would now have won it for a record 8th consecutive year! Outstanding.

I really enjoyed watching the KZNPO on Friday evening. We are indeed very fortunate to have such a wealth of local and international musical talent here in KZN.

I can certainly recommend the KZNPO for audiences of all ages.

Thanks to Mr Arde and Glenwood Prep for allowing the GCF to use the Glenwood Prep fields for this fundraising event.
