Glenwood High School
Inter-House Athletic Relay meeting
The inter-house relay is always a highlight in Glenwood’s athletic fixtures. The boys thrive on team events and the opportunity to showcase their obvious athletic ability.
The 2010 event was no exception. I am always pleasantly surprised to note the talent that lies within the school. I am a firm believer that athletics is the core foundation for all active sporting codes and the benefits of athleticism are obvious for all to see with many of the “active” sportsmen dominating on the track.
There is still a tendency for many of the boys to opt for the “easier” events like the 100m and 200m and shy away from the challenging 400m and 800m. Having said that there are many prospective middle distance athletes who could, with training, develop into more competitive athletes.
The events offered were:
These events have long been a fixture in Glenwood’s athletics history and contribute to the 100 year tradition that sustains the school as one of KZN’s premier boys’ high schools.
The races were keenly contested with Gibson leading from the front. Kennedys’ dominated the day-boy houses whilst Blanksbys’ and McCabes battled it out for third. The final placings were as follows:
Gibson will take their lead into tomorrow’s track event finals. We look forward to exciting athletics with medals on offer for the top 3 athletes.
With the hope that more schools will return to athletics, we look forward to the possibility of inter-school athletics again where boys are able to compete against their traditional rivals in athletics as well as the more well known codes.
