Cricket at College week

College Week 2010

Day 1

On the first day Glenwood came up against St Johns from Johannesburg. Glenwood won the toss and in overcast conditions decided to bowl. St Johns got of to a solid start but Mishkal Ramsaroop on debut took 4 for 36 in his 10 overs to restrict St Johns to 226 for 7.

Ramsaroop(27) then shared a good partnership with Javier Frost (44 not out) to leave Glenwood on 82 for 1 when the rain came down. The match ended in a draw.

Day 2

On the second day Glenwood faced Canberra Grammer from Australia. Again the overcast conditions made it an easy choice for Glenwood to bowl first. The bowlers shared responsibility and shared the wickets amongst each other to restrict Canberra to 206 all out.

Glenwood started well with another good opening partnership between Frost and Ramsaroop of 141. After the lost of a few wickets it was left to Wesley Roberts and Richard Wissing to hit the winning runs in the 43 over.

Day 3

Glenwood faced Trinity House from Johannesburg on the final day. Again Glenwood won the toss and decided to bat in nice sunny conditions. Unfortunately the batsmen couldn’t take advantage of the nice conditions with only Grove Venter with an innings of 67, which included three massive sixes, managing to score some runs.

Glenwood finally finishing on 167 all out.

Unfortunately Glenwood never really got into the game after Trinity House got of to a good start and although a few wickets fell late on Trinity ended up winning by 4 wickets.

With a four senior players missing the week must be seen as a success with a few fringe players being exposed to the highest level of High School cricket and performing well. Much is anticipated from this group of players in 2010.
