Cricket Fixtures - Term 1 - 2010.

The following cricket fixtures have been confirmed for the first term of 2010. The 1st XI is very excited about the new format and will have no less than 13 fixtures to kick the season off.
The season begins in the midlands at the ever popular College Week hosted by Maritzburg College. There are teams from KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, East London and even a touring side from Australia. The fixtures for College Week are as follows:
·        Jan 4th : GHS vs St. Johns
·        Jan 5th : GHS vs Canberra Grammar
·        Jan 6th : GHS vs Trinity House
Prior to the local KZN fixtures kicking off, the Glenwood 1st XI will host a touring side from Zimbabwe, the formidable St. Johns. We look forward to the encounter as our last match preparation for the tough local season.
The local season for the 1st XI has also received a major boost from Cricket South Africa. The Pro 20 Schools Competition has been included for the first time in 2010. The format is new and exciting and will provide a new challenge for the boys as the rules are different for the 20/20 as opposed to the 50 over format.
The Pro 20 starts off with regional competitions from which the winners then play each other for the right to represent KZN in the inter-provincial stage. Ultimately, a winning school will emerge as the 2010 Pro School Champions. Besides bragging rights and lucrative prize money, I believe the real benefit will be the opportunity to be involved with the latest version of the game. The fixtures for the Pro 20 are:
·        Jan 27th : GHS vs Brettonwood (Home)
·        Feb 3rd:    GHS vs New Forest (Away)
·        Feb 10th: GHS vs Kingsway (Home)
 
Glenwood High School will again field over 30 teams throughout the age-groups in 2010 as cricket grows from strength to strength. We always take pride in offering every boy the opportunity to play the gentleman’s’ game. The local fixtures for the first term are played on Saturdays and read as follows:
·      Jan 16th :              1st vs Howick (H) ; 2nd vs Thomas Moore (A)
·      Jan 23rd :              DHS (H)
·      Jan 30th :              St. Charles (H)
·      Feb 6th :                Westville (A)
·      Feb 13th:              Northwood (H)
·      Feb 20th :              U13 Cricket Festival
·      Feb 27th:              Maritzburg College (H)
·      March 6th:             TBC/GPL/Interhouse
As Glenwood’s major summer code, cricket enjoys the full support of both the boys and the staff. We eagerly await the new year and look forward to renewing our friendships with our old and traditional rivals.
