Motivational Speaker and musician, Andre De Villiers visits Glenwood.

Mr Andre De Villiers visited Glenwood today and spoke to a large and appreciative audience.

His message was clear for all to understand and the boys certainly appreciated that.

I am sure that many Parents will be told about the message when the boys get home tonight.

Super 8 Squash vs Westville

This is a very good result for Glenwood and Glenwood Number 1, J. Hutton, played very well indeed to overcome a spirited and determined fight-back by the Westville Number 1, B. Allsopp.

Mr Sibbald and his coaching Staff must be complimented on getting the Glenwood boys ready for the Super 8 competition.

Glenwood won 5 - 3.

Old Boy, Tyrone Morris visits school.

Old Boy and National Gymnastic Champion, Tyrone Morris visited School today and donated his SA Blazer to the School Museum.

Tyrone continues to excel as a National Champion and has travelled the world as a representative of South Africa.

Standardised Testing Programme - Term 1 - 2010.

Standardised Assessment Programme for final week of Term 1 (2010)

The Standardised Assessment Programme is taken very seriously and is run under the same conditions as Control Tests/Examinations. This means that pupils will require a Doctor’s Certificate if sick on a particular day. If this is not submitted, the pupil will get zero for the Assessment/s missed. The marks obtained for the Assessments will be included in the CASS mark component for Term 2 and it is thus important for pupils to perform well in all Tasks set.

All pupils are required to participate in the Cross Country event (unless medically exempt) and pupils will be given a mark for this which will be added to the LIFO mark which appears on their Report and is included in Aggregate. Normal PE kit is expected to be worn. All boys will receive marks according to their level of performance.

Your attention is also drawn to the fact that NORMAL teaching will continue in all lessons apart from Period 3.

1st XI Cricket Tea

The 1st XI took tea with the Headmaster on Tuesday in the MTP. The Headmaster congratulted them on their performances in 2010 and encouraged them to keep trying as hard as possible to maintain their excellent results. He also taught some of the players the finer details in terms of drinking tea in the correct manner; an important lifeskill!

Championship Gala

The Championship Gala was completed on Monday morning and Gibson House were the winners. There were some excellent performances and so, hopefully, the swim teams are better prepared for Thursday evening than they were at the Westville Gala.

Chess Tour to Grey College - 2010.

The chess boys and Mr. Bentham left Glenwood at 5:30am on Friday the 19/02 and made their way to Grey college in Bloemfontein.  The trip went smoothly and we arrived at 1:30pm and registered and booked into the hostel at GreyCollege by 2:30pm.  The boys played two games on Friday, finishing at 8:30pm that evening.  By this time they were very tired and enjoyed a good night's rest.  They woke up to omlettes, cereal and toast, a good start to a long day of intense games against very tough opposition.  The strongest schools in the country played at this tournament, such as GreyCollege themselves and the favourites and winners, Affies from Pretoria.  It is such a pleasure to see the boys’ ability to handle such pressure and intense games that are two hours long, when the slightest slip can cost you the game.  Our A team ended up fourth out of about 50 schools.  Even though the B and C team never really featured, It was a good developmental experience for the boys.  Jarryd Geyser in the C team impressed by winning all five of his games!

Thanks to Mr Ellis, the bus driver and General Manager of all Glenwood Touring Teams, we had a very pleasant and safe journey.  The boys seem to enjoy the tour very much and look forward to definitely featuring next year.

Boarding Experience - 2010

Gibson House Experience - 2010.

More than 50 boys from primary schools across KZN arrived at Gibson House on Friday, 19 Feb 2010 to be part of the Boarding Experience 2010 weekend. Upon arrival the boys were allocated rooms and had to make their beds to experience life in the boarding establishment. After supper they went to watch the rugby at Kings Park along with the Primary Schools' Festival players.

Saturday after breakfast the boys were taken to Ushaka Wet & Wild. As this weekend coincides with the U13 Cricket Festival they could watch their friends play in the afternoon.

After breakfast the following morning the normal neatness checks took place. At 11:00 their parents arrived and they were taken on a tour of the School. The weekend ended with the boys having lunch with their parents in the boarding establishment.

Much fun was had by all concerend and Mrs Barnes and her Team must be thanked for their efforts.

Glenwood U13 Cricket Festival 2010

The Glenwood High School Annual U13 Cricket Festival took place Friday 19 February and Saturday 20 February 2010.

Twelve teams from in and around Durban played three games each at Glenwood High School, Glenwood Preparatory School, Manor Gardens and Penzance Primary School.

The participating schools were: Glenwood Prep, Umhlali Prep, Amanzimtoti Primary, Athlone Park Primary, Penzance Primary, Manor Gardens Primary, Izotsha Primary, Benjamin Pine Primay, Hutten Park Primary, Drakensview Primary and Northlands Primary and Brighton Beach Senior Primary.

The Festival does not have a “winner” but prizes were awarded to the Most Promising Batsmen, C. Frackers from Hutten Park Primary and the Most Promising Bowler, O. Cele from Glenwood Prep.

Many compliments were received about the organisation and the standard of the cricket played. Well done to Mr Munro and his support Team.

KZN Youth Choir Member.

Daniel Brown of Form V was recently selected to represent the KZN Youth Choir. This is a first for Daniel despite being selected for the National Youth Choir in 2009. Well done Daniel.

Glenwood U13 Cricket Festival - 2010.

The Annual Glenwood U13 Cricket Festival took place this weekend and we had a record number of teams participating. Well done to all concerned.

The Chiefs say thanks to Glenwood boys.

The Super 14 team of the Chiefs have concluded their two week stay at Glenwood and move on to Johannesburg today for their clash against the Lions. The boys thoroughly enjoyed having the Chiefs here at Glenwood and break time was occupied with watching them train. Some of the boys were lucky enough to train with the Chiefs and received tickets for the past game in Durban. The Chiefs presented Glenwood with one of their signed game jerseys and Fred Zeilinga and Meyrick Walker were on hand to receive the jerseys. We wish the Chiefs all the best in the rest of the Super 14 and hope to see them back at Glenwood in the near future.
