G.A.M.E.S. Programme

The G.A.M.E.S (Glenwood Academy of Mathematics, Engineering & Sciences) Programme has as its key objective the improvement of the quality of teaching and learning in Mathematics, Engineering and Sciences in Primary Schools, GET and FET phases of Education.

The second aim is to generate a greater interest in these subjects in order to encourage teachers to study mathematics and the sciences.

We have started the Programme by teaching Grade 4 learners from Mzwilili Primary School every Wednesday afternoon. Our Grade 11 boys are mentoring them.

Grade 12 learners from John Dube High School are attending Saturday School where Mathematics and Physical Science are being taught. We have enrolled three matriculants from John Dube with UNISA and they are part of our Teacher-in- Training Programme. Once qualified they will return to John Dube as qualified Science teachers. (The Glenwood High School Educational Trust is supporting these young men in their studies.) We intend expanding this programme with the development of a new science center here at Glenwood.

Our vision is to strengthen the scientific bias our school has always enjoyed by developing a science centre to stimulate an interest in Science. Not only will our boys benefit from this, but also the community at large, current teachers, teachers-in-training, current pupils and other schools involved in our outreach programme.
