GLENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL: PARENTS' ASSEMBLY : 30 May 2008 and 6 June 2008

30 May 2008: Assembly was opened with silent prayer and reading. Pupils were asked not to move from stands after the rugby game on Old Boys' Day. Boys congratulated again on Predict-a-Score funds raised. Michael Coaker reported back on the School Leadership Conference held at 'Toti Civic Centre.
Results: Badminton: Glenwood A beat Kingsway A, Glenwood B beat New Forest B, Glenwood C beat DHS C. English Olympiad: Mark Atkinson placed in the top 100. Sailing: Dylan Evans, Luke Vogelsang, Carl Zimmerman and Keegan Olsen participated in the Laser Class of the Grant Prix Regatta off Vetchies. Rugby: The U16 players of the Grant Khomo Training squad have been selected. Softball: Scullard congratulated on being chosen for the SA 19 Softball World Champs to be held in Canada.
6 June 2008: Assembly was opened with silent prayer and reading. Mr Kershaw spoke to the boys about the importance of good manners. Academics: Note changes in exam timetable. Plan your study times - and study! Pupils asked to change into their uniforms and support the 1st XV players at Michaelhouse.
Results: Rugby vs DHS: Won 14 games, lost 1. Tennis vs DHS: Won 2 games, lost 1. Hockey: Won 4 games, drew 1 and lost 2. Volleyball: U16A won against Northwood; U19 won against Queensburgh and Westville. Badminton: Glenwood B beat George Campbell A, Glenwood C drew with Thomas More B. Squash: Glenwood 1 beat DHS; Glenwood 2 beat Kearsney 1; Glenwood 3 beat Westville Senior Primary; Glenwood 4 beat Westville 4 and Glenwood 5 lost to Northwood.
9 June 2008: Assembly was opened with silent prayer and reading. Mr Kershaw again spoke to pupils about the importance of good behaviour - to greet staff and visitors to the School - "Manners maketh man". No foul language in public.
Grade 8H were congratulated on their record fundraising collection of R2 800 for Predict-a-Score. 6 June was World Environment Day and South Durban Community Environmental Alliance held a "Speak Out" Competition, the topic being 'Environmental Justice'.
Results: Touch Rugby: Juniors beat Northwood, lost to College. Seniors beat Port Shepstone, Hillcrest, DHS and College in semi-finals, lost to College in the final. Squash: Congratulations to pupils chosen for various Inter Provincial Tournaments - U19 M Hutchings, Y Maharaj, C Sibbald, R Oosthuizen, J Hutton, A Sibbald; U16 A Nair, B Campbell; U14 C van Zyl. Volleyball: Semi-finals U16A beat New Forest, U19 beat Northwood. Finals U16A beat Kingsway, U19 lost to Kingsway. U16A team undefeated throughout inter-school tournament - these players received medals - R Pillay (Capt), W Velusamy, A Naicker, R Moodley, Y Moonsamy, Y Pillay, M Powell, J Maharaj. Hockey: Glenwood lost 6 games to Michaelhouse. Rugby: vs Michaelhouse won 9 games, drew 3, lost 8. Rugby vs KZN U13, lost 2 games. Chess: Glenwood beat Port Natal.
