21 April: Sailing - Warren Ostendorf sailed the yacht "Unzipped" in the Inhaca race between Inhaca Island (near Maputo) and Richards Bay. His team were placed in 1st position . Well done! 5 May: Price Waterhouse & Coopers Accounting Award - Previn Pillay and Thando Ntshingila have both been awarded full bursaries and training contracts for their studies in Accounting next year. Congratulations! Chess - Glenwood vs Northwood, Glenwood won. Cross Country - In the U19 event held at Queensburgh recently, Ralph de Kramer was placed 3rd as an individual , there was no team result. Surfing - Rudy Palmboom has been selected as a member of the 2006 Junior Surfing Team which will compete in the ISA World Junior Championships in Brazil from May 1 - 16 2006. All the best Rudy!
8 May: Karate - Nicholas Gourel de st Pern and Abdul Fakroodeen were awarded gold medals in assembly, together with Nathaniel Pillay who received a silver medal and Julian Barnard a bronze medal. 12 May: Cross Country - Ralph de Kramer was placed in 1st position in the U19 USSASA Country League Run held at Newlands West recently. In the U17 event, Jarred Grondein was placed 2nd and in the U13 event, Edwin Mooney was placed in 3rd position. The U14 event was won by Morris Lipschitz. Congratulations! Congella Vootrekkers - Devar Smit attended a Voortrekker Youth Field Camp recently and was awarded a certificate for 2 speciality badges in Radio-Communication and Camp Defence. He was also elected as Commando Youth Leader. Well done! Debating and Shakespeare Quiz - Football - Timothy Parusnath has been selected to represent SAFA SKZNR (Southern KZN Region) in Germany shortly. All the best!
15 May: Interact Club - Last week a group of Interactors attended an Open Day at Chatsworth Hospice and Ralph de Kramer read out a report on the day's events. Debating - Kameel Premhid (Grade 11A) and Daniel de Kadt (Glenwood Old Boy) participated in the finals of the KwaZulu-Natal British Parliamentary Debating Tournament. They were placed 2nd in this debate. Well done! Squash - Glenwood 1sts vs DHS 1sts, Glenwood won. Glenwood 2nds vs DHS 2nds, Glenwood also won. The Glenwood 5th's vs DHS 6ths - Glenwood won. Glenwood 4th's vs Kearsney U16B - Glenwood lost. Soccer - Glenwood played 2 games against Pinetown and Scottburgh and won both games. Chess - Glenwood vs Westville and St Henry's - Glenwood won both games. Surfing - Glenwood B Team vs Northlands Girls A Team - Glenwood won. Badminton - Glenwood played 3 games against Hillcrest, Thomas More and Westville - we lost to Westville and won the other 2 games.
24 May: Mr Kershaw told pupils that he will not compromise on pupil safety and that there will be more searches done. Pupils are NOT to bring dangerous weapons, drugs etc. to school. Rotary Junior Development Golf Day - Mr Kershaw read out a letter of thanks from the Rotary Club of Durban. Our Interact team were thanked for their continuing support and the successful day of Golf which was held at Windsor Park Golf Course recently. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and several players were identified as promising golfers. Well done! St Stithians Tour: Rugby - Glenwood played 21 games, won 19 and lost 2. Well done! Hockey - Glenwood played 8 games, won 8 and lost 3. Squash - Glenwood played 20 matches, won 13 and lost 7. (Glenwood U16A team won all their matches played). Debating - Glenwood won. The Senior Team shared their win with Saints. Cross Country - Glenwood lost to St Stithians. Chess - Glenwood won 14-2. Tennis - Glenwood lost both games played.
26 May : Debating - At the quarter finals of the Durban Coastal Debating League held recently, our Grade 8's lost and or Junior 1st team, Senior 1st team and Senior 2nd team all won their rounds. Glenwood now has 3 teams moving through to the semi-finals to be held shortly. Volleyball - Glenwood vs New Forest, Glenwood U16A team won and our 1st team lost. Inter-School Quiz - Dhesan Pillay, Shannon Muthukarappan and Wesley Du Toit were awarded merit certificates for taking part in this Quiz. They stood in for a team from Sagewood at very short notice and a letter of thanks was read out from the National Creative Arts Youth Festival to this effect. Football - Calvyn Louter will be attending a trial training session at the Middlesbrough Football Club in the UK shortly. We wish him all the best! Glenwood 1st Team vs Westville 1st's - Glenwood won 3-1. Volleyball - Glenwood vs new Forest, Glenwood won one game and lost one. Squash - Glenwood drew all three games against Westville, Crawford La Lucia and Northwood.
29 May: Rugby - Glenwood vs DHS, Glenwood played 18 matches, won 16 and lost 2. The 1st XV won 34-9. Well done! Soccer - Glenwood vs Westville, Glenwood won 3-1.
2 June: Mountain Bikes - Edwin Mooney was placed 3rd in the Kaarkloof 75km Mountain Bike Classic race held recently. He was also placed in 2nd position whilst taking part in the Mtunzini 55km Mountain Bike Classic race held recently. Well done! Volleyball - Glenwood vs George Campbell - Glenwood played 2 games and won both. Performing Arts - Len de Kramer, Clayton Gow and Sazi Nzama have been selected out of 300 applicants, to take part in "The Wiz", a show to be held in July. Tickets will be available from Computicket and will be advertised shortly. Cross Country - There were some good results in the Pinetown League cross country event held recently. Ralph de Kramer (U19 division) was placed 1st in a field of 30 runners and he was placed 6th overall. WaNDA Khuzwayo was placed 2nd in the U16 event. Morris Lipschitz (U14) was also placed 2nd in his division. Congratulations! Soccer - Timothy Parusnath was part of a team of 16 players representing team South Africa in the "One Nation Soccer Tournament" held in Germany recently. 12 teams participated in this tournament and South Africa beat teams like Brazil, Germany, Denmark, Israel and Poland. The South African Team are being hailed in the press as our team for 2010 and they had a hero's welcome at Durban International Airport on their return to South Africa. This is truly an honour for Glenwood High School. Well done!
5 June: Mr Kershaw told pupils to stay away from the Hall whilst the matrics were writing exams. He reminded boys that examinations commence on Friday and that they were to prepare for these. No excuses will be accepted for sport and extra murals during this time. Mr Kershaw said that positive reports were being received with regard to pupils greeting parents, staff etc. Keep it up! Well done! Good behaviour - Mr Kershaw read out a letter from a parent of a Maritzburg College pupil, commenting on the good behaviour and neat appearance of our boys whilst at Maritzburg College. Well done boys! Debating - at the finals for the Durban Coastal Debating league held recently, Matthew Butler-Adam was awarded Best Senior Speaker for the league. The senior 2nd team lost to St Mary's, placing them second in the district. The junior 1st team won against Durban Girls' College placing them 1st in the district. Mark Schoeman was awarded Best Speaker. Excellent results!
