Glenwood U14 KZN Hockey representatives.

Hockey Report – KZN Reps

Glenwood were proud to have 7 U14 hockey players represent their province in the annual inter-provincial tournament held at Kearsney over the long week-end.

Glenwood’s U14 hockey team has only lost to one school this year and have proven they are one of the better U14 teams in the country. They have grown in confidence and ability and it is rewarding to note that half the team managed to gain selection. There are, in fact, a couple more who should consider themselves unfortunate not to have been selected.

The boys who travelled to Kearsney were:

Coastal A Team:

 A. Phehlukwayo, T. Bottomly, H. Roberts, J. Dellis & A. Abraham

Coastal B Team:

 M. Labuschagne and V. Thaver.

Over the 3 days of hockey, the Glenwood boys attributed themselves with meaning and purpose. They carried themselves with pride and it was pleasing to note their manners towards the general public. Overall, the hockey was of a high standard and all teams acquitted themselves admirably. I was fascinated at the intensity and competitive nature displayed by the boys and can only hope that they will carry that motivation through to their senior years.

The results for both the A & B teams were most pleasing.

Coastal A:

vs Border:                              2-0 won

vs Southern Gauteng A:     4-2 won

vs KZN Inland A:                  4-3 won

vs Northern Province A:     3-0 won

vs Southern Gauteng B:     8-1 won

vs Western Province A:      3-4 loss

Coastal B:

vs Mpumalanga A:              5-1 won

vs Mpumalanga B:              1-0 won

vs Border:                              1-1 draw

vs Inland B:                           1-1 draw

vs Northern Free State:       1-1 draw

Well done to all the Glenwood boys for their contributions in making the tournament a success for the Coastal teams.

We look forward to building on the hockey tradition at Glenwood and producing new S.A. players in the future.
