Media Centre

The MJP Maher Media and Information Technology Centre was officially opened in 1995 after extensive alterations to the original school hall.  It is situated in the heart of the school and is the first facility that greets visitors as they walk through the front doors.  The library’s design ensures it can be seen from the surrounding classroom corridors – sight of boys working in the library is a valuable promotion of the value of research and of recreational reading.  Our library houses a collection of over 17 000 items including books, periodicals, DVD’s as well as pamphlets and a cuttings collection.

Apart from timetabled library research activities, boys visit the library during breaks and after school when they can do their prep and read magazines and books in a quiet environment.  Many boys choose to use their time after school to complete tasks and research assignments in an area conducive to study.  We have five computers available for the use of learners and they are able to search the internet, send and receive emails and save their work onto their personal accounts.

Colour printing, photocopying, binding of assignments and laminating are some of the services provided by the library staff which is made up of one full- time librarian and a part-time assistant as well as a team of helpful monitors. We like to think that not only is the library physically situated in the heart of the school but that it is also one of the key locations from which dedicated work by the boys is initiated and a research and reading foundation is established.
