English Department Report 2006

2006 has been an exciting, challenging and event filled year. It is always inspiring to see how English as a subject lends itself to many diverse areas such as: creativity, insight, dramatic ability, analysis and keen involvement in lessons both by the pupils and staff alike. The English Department adds to all of this by being an energetic, committed team whose dedication to the learning process and the subject itself has led to yet another successful year.

At the end of the first term we wished Mrs Thackwray well as she went off on maternity leave. We would like to take this opportunity of congratulating her on the birth of her baby girl - Amy. It is with great sadness that we learnt that she will be leaving Glenwood to teach part time at Marist Stella and to spend more time with her baby. She has been an integral part of the English Department as both a teacher and subject head. It is a great loss to Glenwood and we wish her well in all of her future endeavours.

We also say goodbye to Mr Terblanche who is an old boy of Glenwood and was initially here as a Teacher in training. He has been an integral member of the English Department for a number of years and we are sad to see him go. We wish him everything of the best in his new business career and we are sure that we will still see him at Glenwood sporting events.

Towards the middle of the first term we said goodbye to Ms Smythe. She decided to go back to University to do her Masters in Music. Although she had not been in the department very long she left a definite gap when she left and we wish her every success in her upcoming marriage and her move to Empangeni High School
