Staff still hard at work!

Mr Schwartz and his Team are still hard at work on various projects around the school.

We are indeed fortunate to have people like Mr Schwartz and his Team to keep our facilities in tip-top shape. I would like to extend my personal thanks to him and his assistants for their dedication and commitment to Glenwood.

Mr Pinheiro and Mr Dudas are also very busy at Gibson House getting ready for a another record intake into Gibson next year. The House will also be undergoing some major repairs as we move closer to the World Cup in 2010.

I wish every single member of the Glenwood Family all of the very best for the Festive Season and I hope that you enjoy the time that you spend with family and friends.

We look forward to a highly successful year in 2010.

I remind you to get your 2010 Diary and 2010 Calendar from Mrs Nelson in the Finance Office here at school. Mrs Nelson will be back at work on the 6th January 2010.

Form II to Form V result summary - 2009

I have just finished working with the reults summary sheet that is expected to be sent to the Department of Education at the end of each quarter.

I have added some of my own statistics for interests sake.

I must compliment the boys on some fine performances in 2009 and I certainly look forward to advertising the 2009 NSC result summary early in 2010. Well done to the entire Glenwood Family for producing excellent academic results.

While on the subject of statistics, the Matric exit survey produced some excellent results once again in 2009. I certainly appreciate the boys' honest comments and assessment of the time they have spent here at Glenwood. The overall result for 2009 was an excellent 85% pupil rating of their experiences at Glenwood (up from 81% in 2007 and 2008). The top scoring mark was 94% on the question relating to the School's emphasis on competitiveness in all spheres of school life. This was closely followed by the question on the preparation of Glenwood pupils for life in the global village; a 93% rating from the boys. The emphasis on discipline at Glenwood was also given an A+ rating by the boys, showing once again that boys demand boundaries and a diciplined learning environment in which to work. I will place the summary of the survey on the Matric noticeboard in due course and also talk about it in Assembly in the new year.

Please feel free to look at your son's report and see how his results compare with the rest of his age cohort. On average, only 1% of the boys at Glenwood fail a subject. On average, 20% of Glenwood boys achieve Subject distinctions. On average, 64% of Glenwood boys attain a Subjct 'C' or above. Well done boys!

We will use this information for planning for the academic programme for 2010 and will assist us in setting goals for the School and for each Form and for each subject.

Daily News Sports Awards: 2009

I attended the Spar Daily News Sports Awards function just before the end of the Term and it was a very enjoyable evening. Mr Tommy Ballentyne and Mr G Dardagan work very hard for the Spar Sports Star awards programme and they receive good support from Spar and the Editor of the Daily News, Mr A Dunn.

R. Schnettler was one of the 4 finalisits and Le Clos from Westville won the award. His performances in the pool this year were exceptional.

Well done to all concerend.

Glenwood boys receive special awards.

The School hosted the Head of Water and Sanitation, Mr N McLeod, here last week and he presented 2 Glenwood boys with special awards for University Study in 2010. T Nxele will study Mechanical Engineering at UKZN in 2010 and N Duma will study Chemical Engineering at UCT next year. Bursaries will assist the boys with their studies. Both boys come from very humble backgrounds and this will provide opportinities for them that may well not have exisited before. I look forward to watching their progress.

Special thanks must go to Mr McLeod and his Staff for their forward planning in sourcing engineers for the future.

Glenwood Community Forum Carol Service

Due to the inclement weather, the Glenwood Community Forum Carols Service was moved to the School Hall. It was a wonderful evening and the various choirs and children did very well indeed.

Friends of Glenwood function.

The annual Friends of Glenwood function was held just before the end of the 4th Quarter and Mrs Stenson organised a wondeful evening of friendship.

It was wonderful to see some long-standing friends of Glenwood visiting us for the evening.

Old Boy selected to play for SA U19 in New Zealand.

Glenwood Old Boy, Cody Chetty, will represent his County for the SA Under 19 Team in New Zealand. He is KZN's only representative in the team despite some strong contenders for places in the team. Cody's excellent work ethic and determined attitude played a major part in his selection.

Well done Cody! Good luck in New Zealand and we look forward to watching your progress in the future.
