Community Outreach.

The Glenwood First Team squad and others attended a fundraiser at Old Boy Rod Flanagan's Pick n Pay North beach in the past week. The boys had to do a stock take of the whole store's content which included counting R1,7 million worth of stock, 12453 different products and, approximately, 156000 individual items.

A mammoth task by any stretch of the imagination. Well done to all the boys for their hard work and support of the first team fundraiser!

Glenwood, a family!

Sailing Report.

Sailing News

On Saturday, 27 March 2010, a number of Glenwood sailors travelled up to Midmar Dam in the Midlands to take part in the annual 9-Hour endurance race.  In this race the crew has to be replaced every two or so laps of the course.  Keegan Olsen sailed with Mr Pet as the primary crew while Dylan Stopforth, Bernard Bussy and Michael Dickenson sailed as the relief crew on the Holiday 23 keelboat, Escapade while Carl Zimmerman sailed with his father as relief crew on a Dart 18 catamaran.

The race started at 9.30 am in zero wind conditions and the first 2 laps took in excess of 2 hours.  This made for extremely difficult sailing in a boat that is not suited to light airs sailing.  After handing over to the relief crew the breeze eventually filled in and by the afternoon had improved to a maximum of 8 knots.

Although not in the results, the boys sailed extremely well.  At one stage they continued to sail an extra lap on their own as they were enjoying it so much.  Carl Zimmerman and his father sailed well in the Dart class to take 1st place.

100 Club Winners

The February 100 Club Draw took place on Friday evening and Ms Mace and her friends provided some excellent entertainment.

February 100 Club winners
1st Prize: Shared with Lorna McArthur and Blamey / Jones.
2nd Prize Schwartz / Job
Attend: Pat Nelson

We look forward to the 2010 Prefect Body using this initiative to raise funds for the GAMES programme for 2010.

Well done again to Mrs Barnes and her team.

Glenwood 1st Tennis Team win.

The Glenwood 1st Tennis Team played Kearsney up at Kearsney again today. The singles matches were concluded by the early afternoon despite the rain that threatened to end the exciting matches.

Kearsney has dominated KZN Schools' Tennis for a number of years now and so the young Glenwood Team was looking forward to pitting their strength against some of the strongest players in KZN.

Glenwood Number 1 and SA U16 Number 1, R Myburgh, led from the front and won his match 3-0. In the end the Glenwood 1st Team won the fixture 5-1. This is an excellent achievement and the boys, coaches, Staff and Parents can feel proud of their results.

Well done.

Glenwood Chess Tournament

Nearly 300 avid chess players from all over KZN decended on Glenwood for the annual Glenwood Tournament. Well done to the organisers for an excellent tournament. Results will be advertised in due course.

1st XI Cricket vs College

The Glenwood 1st XI struggled to post a decent total after being sent into bat by the visitors. Trying to defend a low score was never going to be possible with the strength of the College line-up on a roll. Only rain would have saved the day for the Glenwood 1st XI and the College batsmen responded accordingly in the last 2 overs and won the game by 9 wickets.

The Glenwood players will pick themselves up for their 20/20 game on Wednesday.

Cycling Report

Liam Mooney won the individual cycling time trial and received a gold medal in the KZN Road Cycling Champs 2010.

The Mr Price Cycling Club hosted the KZN Champs at Eston this year.

Liam Mooney was awarded the 3rd place at the Wartburg MTB Classic the weekend after KZN Champs.  He achieved a 3rd place even though he ran the last 3km carrying his bike because it had punctures in both wheels.

Standardised Assessment Programme for final week of Term 1 (2010)

The Standardised Assessment Programme is taken very seriously and is run under the same conditions as Control Tests/Examinations. This means that pupils will require a Doctor’s Certificate if sick on a particular day. If this is not submitted, the pupil will get zero for the Assessment/s missed. The marks obtained for the Assessments will be included in the CASS mark component for Term 2 and it is thus important for pupils to perform well in all Tasks set.

All pupils are required to participate in the Cross Country event (unless medically exempt) and pupils will be given a mark for this which will be added to the LO mark which appears on their Report and is included in Aggregate. Normal PE kit is expected to be worn. All boys will receive marks according to their levels of performance.

Your attention is also drawn to the fact that NORMAL teaching will continue in all lessons apart from Period 3.

Durban & Districts A League Gala 2010.

The annual D&D A League Swimming Gala took place at Kings Park Pool last night. The Glenwood A and B Teams set goals for  themselves for the Gala and it was very pleasing to see how hard the swimmers and coaching Staff worked to attain the goals. The Glenwood A Team finished 5th and the Glenwood B Team finished 9th.

Special mention must be made of the support that the Glenwood Team enjoyed from the boys; they were very impressive.

Glenwood hosted the Gala this year and many compliments were received about the running of the meeting.

Well done to all involved in the Gala and 'swimming' was the winner on the night.
