Please see below a report from Old Boy, Malcolm Phillips on his recent SA selection and Tour:
CMAS UNDERWATER HOCKEY WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS- SLOVENIA 2009
It was a great honour and privilege to be awarded my Protea blazer and become Springbok number ‘57’. We as a South African team represented our country extremely well.
We went through the round robin undefeated after winning some hard fought games against Great Britain, France, Turkey and Spain. The end result of the tournament was us being placed 2nd after losing to France in an epic final in which a result only came about in extra time.
Below are our results from the tournament:
Round Robin
SA 5 Great Britain 2
SA 14 Hungary 0
SA 7 Slovenia 1
SA 9 Italy 0
SA 9 Portugal 0
SA 4 France 2
SA 20 Croatia 0
SA 3 Spain 0
SA 9 Belgium 0
SA 3 Turkey 1
Playoffs
SA 17 Hungary 0 (Quarter finals)
SA 4 Great Britain 2 (Semi- finals)
SA 3 France 4 (Final)
This was an amazing tour and competition to be part of; the experience of playing against and amongst the world’s best will remain strong in my memory for years to come.
