Over this last weekend, 2 Glenwood U/14A cricketers achieved a rare feat while helping their team defeat the KZN Primary Schools team. Coming together at 46/4, they then proceeded to advance the score to 230 before the next wicket fell. Paul Amorim (103) and Mario Jaftha (107) both scored centuries, following Colin Munro's century the week before against Maritzburg College.
What makes the feat more remarkable is the fact that they were playing on the main field! A quick search through the records show that the first time that 2 Glenwood batsmen scored centuries in the same innings was in 1923 when Southwood (115) and Bartlett (108) helped the 1st XI to 256/4 against Kearsney. Ray Markham and Mervyn Lang put on 228 for the first wicket against St Henrys in 1940, but their individual scores are not recorded. It is probably safe to assume that both scored centuries. (Can any old boys of 1940 vintage help out?)
In 1972 Neill Roberts (105) and Alan Logan (90*) narrowly missed out when Glenwood amassed 207/3 to beat Hilton's 205/6.
There are almost certainly other occasions when 2 Glenwood batsmen scored centuries in the same innings. If old boys can recall the details of when they occurred and who was involved, please feel free to contact the school so that they can be recorded on the website.
