Indications are that South Africa is facing a serious shortage of qualified teachers in key subjects such as mathematics, science and technology. The shortage of engineers is linked to this. It was with this in mind that we embarked on the GAMES Programme. The primary aim of this programme is to strengthen our school’s strong scientific bias in order to provide support to disadvantaged communities to address their needs in this regard. The Programme is dependent on the use of new technology and the upgrading of our facilities. The Mc Donald Road Block has been identified to be altered into a Science, Maths and Engineering Centre. Through the very generous financial support of the Victor Daitz Foundation we were able to complete phase 1 of our development in July 2008. The Victor Daitz Science provides the infra structure and resources to enable Glenwood High School to reach out to schools from disadvantaged communities to provide support to their pupils and teachers.
