SMILE

The SMILE (St Mary’s Interactive Learning Experience) Programme has been running for the past four years now. It has proven to be even more popular now than when it was first adopted in 2005. Fifth Form boys volunteer to become SMILE Facilitators. Once a week primary school children from disadvantaged schools are transported to the school to be taught conversational English by our boys. In many ways the Glenwood Boys lead very protected and naive lives, so much so that they are unaware of the difficulties facing children in other communities. The SMILE Programme creates an opportunity for them to become sensitized to the needs of others and to grow immeasurably as people. By doing this our Motto “Nothing that concerns Humanity is unimportant to me” becomes a reality to them.
