1st XV Rugby vs Westville:
This weekend's fixture between Glenwood and Westville was played in aid of Jes Foord's Rugby Against Rape Campaign. It was also the last game of the second term for Glenwood and the last game of the year for Westville; a lot was at stake for both teams. The Green Machine wore lime green shorts in support of the Rugby Against Rape campaign.
The first half was filled with exciting rugby. Westville converted the first penalty to go into the lead, a lead short lived as Siyabonga Tom answered with a 'swirling' penalty for Glenwood to level scores at 3 all. Glenwood were penalised later again and Westville converted to take the lead 6-3. The Green Machine found some momentum in the last 20 minutes of the first half giving the ball some air and running great angles. Outside centre and Craven Week player Nkululeko Marwana scored the first try for Glenwood after breaking the Westville defence and finishing off in the corner. Siyabonga Tom followed with a equally beautiful try as he received a pass from Nkululeko Marwana, Tom cut back in field and finished the move by stepping the last defender to dot down under the poles. Tom converted his own try to take the halftime score to 15-6 to Glenwood.
The second half started well for Glenwood with eight man Carel Swart out sprinting defence from the kick off to score a 60 metre try. After the try the men in Green seem to 'take the foot off the pedal' allowing Westville back into the game with Westville scoring two tries. That was the last time Westville scored as Glenwood found their second breath. Glenwood struggled to finish off great pieces of play and left at least two tries wanting. Dylan Coulson scored the last try as he sprinted down the touch line "dribbling" the ball in front of him before diving on it. Siyabonga Tom missed the try conversion but managed to make up for it with a late penalty to take the final score to 28-16 in favour of Glenwood.
Well done to the boys for their great defence in this game and the composure they showed on their own try line and in attack.
Special wishes go to the 9 Glenwood Craven week players, 8 KZN Academy players and 6 KZN Grant Khomo u16 players. They will represent KZN from Glenwood and we are very proud of the boys and all the hard work they have put in. This team has grown immensely this year and we are proud of all the support from the School, the Parents, the Old Boys and others, as well the blessings we have received as a team and the talent God has given us. We look forward to an exciting 3rd term of Rugby and I would like to wish the boys all the best during the holidays.
God Bless.
Mr S Erasmus.

2. HOCKEY VS WESTVILLE
SATURDAY 18TH JUNE 2011
Glenwood Hockey hosted Westville at the 3 Schools Trust Astro on Saturday. With a number of games being spread over two days, the main games were played on Saturday morning.
The 14As started the morning off and although both sides traded attacks and counter-attacks, it was Glenwood that dominated the early proceedings and capitalized to take the lead. Westville never backed down and continued to apply pressure. Both sides netted again before the half time whistle to end the first half 3-1 to Glenwood.
In the second half, the Glenwood unit was too strong and ran away with the game, eventually winning 6-1.
The 16As was a totally different affair. It was a scrappy encounter with moments of brilliance. Both sides were evenly matched and the final score of 1-1 was probably the only outcome. The Glenwood boys will need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a far better plan if they wish to be more competitive.
The 1st XI started at a brisk pace, pushing the ball around the back and exploiting the outside channels. Ross Hetem and Gareth Roberts played an inspiring game, displaying quick hands and creating opportunities for the forwards who were unable to convert. At the turn, both sides were deadlocked at 0-0.
After the break, Westville seemed to lift a gear and Glenwood played into their hands by making way too many basic errors. A total of 7 chances on goal went unconverted, a costly error. Westville scored with 10 minutes on the clock, the Glenwood defenders allowing them to run unopposed into the “D” and score way too easily. Glenwood keeper, Gareth Grundlingh, played his best game of the season, making a number of crucial saves and keeping Glenwood within striking distance. With possibly Glenwood’s two easiest chances of the game being squandered in the last 6 minutes, Westville secured their win with a second goal. The final score of 2-0 reflected a lack of intensity and application from the Glenwood 1st XI hockey.
With Affies, College and Grey Bloem left in the third term, Glenwood will need to lift their game and reduce the number of unforced errors significantly in order to match and beat their opposition.
Thank you to all the parents for their support so far this year. We look forward to our final three games and a much improved performance.
