Sailing

Sailing at Glenwood provides the boys with a sport that has a number of facets and teaches a number of life skills.

Sailing takes place throughout the year weather permitting. When the weather is unsuitable for practical sailing, theoretical instruction will be given. Newcomers are taught the basics of sailing and how to manage a boat on the water. Once competent and past the novice stage, boys are taught the finer details of sail trim and boat handling and are encouraged to get involved in racing. The boys who show promise are introduced to sailing a keelboat on Container World Challenge, the Point Yacht Club L26 class yacht.

Glenwood sailors are able to participate in a number of regattas throughout the year. They include:

Dinghy racing.

  1. KZN Inter Schools Regatta held during March
  2. Grand Slam Series held at Island Sailing Club, Henley Midmar Yacht Club, Zululand Yacht Club and off Durban sailing from the PYC beach facility
  3. Easter Regatta – Durban Offshore
  4. Various Provincial and National Championships
  5. The Henley-Midmar Yacht Club 9-hour race
  6. Club racing – Durban Bay

  2. J22 Junior National Regatta – Hartebeespoort Dam
  3. MSC Week – Durban Offshore
  4. Royal Natal Regatta – Durban Offshore and Durban Bay

Glenwood High School is proud of the boys present and past who have been awarded their Protea Colours and others have achieved accolades in the various other sailing disciplines.
