The Glenwood First Team Water Polo played Kearsney in a thrilling encounter last Saturday. With Kearsney being out and out winners by 9 goals in their previous encounter a month ago, the Glenwood boys had a massive challenge ahead. The game started at an extremely fast pace with both sides having numerous scoring opportunities but both goalkeepers were on top form, making some great saves. It took a well-worked extra man move for Kearsney to take the lead 1-0 late in the first chukka. Glenwood managed to pull one back in the second chukka, scoring the only goal of that period. The 3rd chukka saw the momentum swing Kearsney’s way as they scored another 2 unanswered goals taking the score to 3-1. This is when the Glenwood boys changed gear and started putting pressure on the Kearsney defence by scoring 2 quick goals of their own. The 4th chukka started with a level score, 3 all. Glenwood stayed determined and didn’t drop the intensity of their counterattack, resulting in us finally taking the lead for the first time with 5mins left to play. This was followed up with another great extra-man goal by Glenwood putting us 2 goals up at 5-3. A penalty shot saves as well as a brilliant one on one save by the Kearsney keeper kept them in the game. Kearsney managed to pull a goal back with a minute left to play but the Glenwood defence stood firm and we closed the game out 5-4 winners.
