Principal Reflects On Term 3 2019

Dear Parents, Old Boys, Supporters and Boys,

The first month of this term has started off with very tough sporting fixtures. Thank you to the parents who assisted us with hosting of the boys from Middelburg. The inbound tours are a wonderful opportunity for our boys to build friendships with boys from outside the province. We thank all Old Boys who turned out in their numbers for the various events that formed part of our Old Boys’ weekend. Our boys really enjoyed having them in assembly as well as taking them on a tour of the school. We are really encouraged by the support several Old Boys pledged to our Vision 2022 initiative. Our recent meeting with Old Boys in Johannesburg again showed the commitment of our Old Boys to their Alma Mater. The refurbishing of Gibson House is under way and has been made possible through the generous contribution of our Old Boys. We constantly remind our boys of the legacy they face so they remain committed to building on that. The following weekend our outbound tour to Grey College took place and our boys, in all the codes, gave a good account of themselves. The winter sport ended with a tough fixture at Maritzburg College. Our Musical Production, Glenwood Rewind, directed by Marion Loudon, drew full audiences for all three performances. This has become one of the highlights in our Third Term Calendar. The art work of our Form VI boys displayed this week, is of a very high standard and we are encouraged by the increase in the number of boys opting for this subject.

Our soccer season was far too short but the boys were totally committed to this code. Two of our boys, Rijul Pillay and Siphephelo Gwala, were selected for the MDC AmaZulu team. We are indeed very proud of their achievements.

The Form VI boys then started to burn the midnight oil in preparation of their trials examinations. We are expecting some very good results from the class of 2019 at the end of the year.

The highlight of the term for the Form V boys was the leadership camp held at Happy Wanderers last weekend. Our boys and staff thoroughly enjoyed having fun in the outdoors. The inter-house activities at the end of the term provided excellent opportunities for mass participation and involvement of a significant number of boys.

Glenwood remains at the cutting edge of educational thinking and remains an institution of excellence in all spheres. Our goal remains to teach our boys to think critically and analytically.” Intelligence plus character is the goal of true education” (MLK Jnr).

I thank all our staff and coaches, our parents, Old Boys and supporters, for their continuous support of all our pursuits.
